Smartpur is Nokia's flagship CSR initiative — a digital village ecosystem designed to empower rural and remote communities across India through inclusive and sustainable development. Rooted in Nokia's vision of “Connecting the Unconnected,” the project integrates technology into daily life in remote villages by establishing digital centres, run by trained local youth entrepreneurs, that make essential services accessible at the village level.
Smartpur is a CSR initiative of Nokia, the CSR donor. It is facilitated by KPMG, the monitoring partner responsible for outcome tracking, compliance monitoring and third-party assessments, and it is implemented on the ground by REACHA, the implementation agency handling field-level execution, local stakeholder engagement and reporting.
Smartpur centres deliver services across five interconnected pillars: Education, Financial Inclusion, Governance, Health, and Livelihood. Each centre functions as an integrated, multi-service delivery node rather than working in silos.
This report covers 90 Smartpur centres across six geographies: Andhra Pradesh (Nellore & Tirupati) with 20 centres, Assam (Dhemaji) with 10, Jammu (Samba) with 19, Kashmir (Anantnag) with 6, Maharashtra (Nashik) with 20, and Rajasthan (Dungarpur) with 15. Most centres are located at the Panchayat level in highly rural and remote areas.
The Education pillar provides digital learning, computer literacy courses, and foundational and career-focused education support for students and youth.
The Financial Inclusion pillar provides access to banking, digital payments, government-linked financial schemes, and financial literacy training.
The Governance pillar assists communities with public service access, documentation, digital governance portals, and awareness about their rights and entitlements.
Through its Health pillar, Smartpur offers telemedicine consultations, preventive care awareness, and basic healthcare services delivered digitally to communities with limited access to medical facilities.
The Livelihood pillar provides skill-building programmes, vocational training, employment linkages, and entrepreneurship support to promote self-reliance.
